Why do I want to go to College?

I was checking out some of my prospective universities' supplements on the Common Application. No, I am not applying this year but I just wanted to get an idea of what is awaiting me. Many of the supplement essays had interesting topics. I was impressed. Maybe college applications will be fun - at least the writing part of it will be. I was sure I could write most of those essays passionately, but there was one which threw me off. It was simple. It got right down to the basics. The question was "Why do you want to go to college?".

So here I go, I'm trying to list the top 5 reasons why I want to go to college: (They are in no particular order)

1. Intellectual People
The prospect of staying up late in the night to debate controversial events, or to discuss the very meaning of life with my intellectual roommate seems enticing. You see, I don't have many friends at school who would readily indulge in such conversations. So I look forward to people who wouldn't mind (or would like) to bring intellectual discussions to the dinner table.

2. The independence (and well ...the responsibility)
College is where I can make my own decisions. Decisions that range from which courses to take, which housing option to opt for, where to eat, if I should buy that pretty new dress. All this while I'm tight on money. I see college as the place where I learn to make my own decisions.

3. Study C.S., Creative Writing and Plato
Have I told you that I think I have a flair for computers? Now I have. And if you have been reading my blog, you know that I love to write. One thing I haven't really talked about is my conviction of a liberal arts education. I believe that the subjects are as connected as the people who study them.I want to broaden my scope so I can connect the dots and recognize the big picture. And a liberal arts college education will help me do just that.

4. Meet My Entrepreneurial Counterpart
If you know me, you know how keen I am on entrepreneurship. And really, all the start-ups that ever ventured into the profitable section of their financial records were founded by two people. Two seems to be the perfect number of co-founders. Look at Google, or Microsoft. And they most of these co-founder pairs met in college. I'm going to meet my entrepreneurial counterpart in college too, right?

5. The cliche: If I don't go to college, I might end up homeless
This reason is taboo amongst us intellectual (self proclaimed) kids. It's a reason too shallow and the least impressive, no? But it's true. So I acknowledge it. We all want that pretty, luxurious summer home in an exotic tropical land. And a college degree will help me build that home sooner.

Now I will to have express this in an intriguing, compact essay of 300 words next year. That should be amusing.
